How Train Dog And Why Go To The Trouble?
Nobody loves a badly behaved dog and the dog is probably not very happy either. Your dog wants to please you but if it has never had proper dog training lessons and is not sure how it is supposed to behave it will forever be being told off and that makes for a sad dog. So, how do you go about training a dog and what are the benefits of dog training? What does it actually mean to train a dog and what is considered a well trained dog?
In the simplest of terms, training a dog is all about teaching it how to behave when living alongside humans and teaching it to do what we command when we give it instructions. There are several different approaches and how you train your dog might be a little different to how I train my dog. The basic requirements of a well trained dog are:-
- House train dog, to teach it not to mess in the wrong places such as in the house unless you potty train it to use a tray.
- Walk to heel when out on a leash
- Sit on command and stay there until told otherwise.
- Come to you when called.
- Fetch commands which are usually done for fun but are important and useful requirements of a hunting dog.
All of these dog training commands are fairly obvious except perhaps walk to heel which means walking close to your leg and keeping step with you when you take it for walks. This is important because a badly behaved dog on a leash will be getting in your way, tripping you up and trying to drag you off course as the dog tries to investigate things it sees and smells.
Finally we have the more specialised training which some people and dogs love to do. Things like walking through barrels, jumping through hoops and even walking a tightrope or walking a plank.
Most dogs can be trained to do all these things so later we will discus how train dog to do these things but it is important to understand that dogs are intelligent animals and they are eager to learn and secondly they want to please you because that way they can feel comfortable that they are doing the right thing and will not be constantly shouted at and told off for misbehaving.
